As you know, Marshal of the Soviet Union Vasily Ivanovich Chuikov was a talented commander, through whose efforts more than one battle in the Great Patriotic War, including the Battle of Stalingrad.
Today I want to tell you about some episodes from his frontline and personal life.

V.I. Chuikov served as a role model for his subordinates. So one day he personally flew with a pilot on a U-2 plane to conduct reconnaissance. Suddenly a German fighter jet was behind the plane where Vasily Ivanovich was. This chase ended with the fall of U-2. Fortunately, V.I. Chuikov, and the pilot survived.
It was at Chuikovs headquarters on May 2, 1945 that the commander of the Berlin defense, General Weidling, signed the surrender of the last Berlin garrison, which was soon followed by the surrender of Germany.
It was somehow not customary to talk about Marshals personal life and hobbies, although I managed to find some of them.
So V.I. Chuikov was an experienced chess player. It is known for certain that thanks to his efforts in 1945, a radio chess match was organized between the allies. Then the Soviet Union defeated the «enemy» with a dry score of 10: 0. Chuikov himself played on the first board.
V.I. Chuikov was an avid hunter. To be honest, he loved this business. But it is also noteworthy that this hobby of Marshal was also supported by his wife Valentina Petrovna, who repeatedly went with her husband to hunt the animal.

According to personal will, V. Chuikov was buried at Mamayev Kurgan in the hero-city # Volgograd, where 35,000 defenders of Stalingrad are buried, including those who fought in his 62nd Army.
