Being in the 9th grade in the early 80s of the last century, I was also fortunate enough to be on guard at Post # 1 , from which are the most pleasant memories in my memory.

Then in Volgograd much attention was paid to the patriotic education of the younger generation and Post # 1 was the honorable duty of Volgograd schoolchildren to carry around it watch. But this duty still had to be earned. How? Naturally good grades and, as they said then, exemplary behavior.

The first myth: Only excellent students and good students with exemplary behavior were allowed to Post # 1

Just want to say, nothing like that! Of course, the first candidates for the honor watch were guys and girls with high marks. I have always been firmly convinced that I certainly will not have problems with getting into the group of candidates. And so it happened.

But as I remember now, there were not enough excellent students and good students to form shifts in our class, and the teachers had to involve everyone the rest. You should have seen how their eyes were burning!

Therefore, then almost every student had the opportunity to participate in this honorable event, regardless of grades and behavior. I think this is correct! Discrimination is inappropriate here.

Myth two: Post # 1 has paid meals

Although I had to catch the era of developed socialism in all its glory, meals in the school cafeteria were paid. A three-course lunch cost 20 kopecks.

Therefore, the teachers gave the parents strict instructions to give us the same 20 kopecks for Lent. for lunches. For some reason, the teachers were apparently not aware that they would feed us absolutely FREE OF CHARGE! And not that table mashed potatoes, which the school chefs diligently smeared on the plate, giving it visibility and volume, but a full dinner, plus a bun of your choice. But if you didnt have enough, then you could use those cherished 20 kopecks for another bun and pie.

And all because we ate in the regional committee canteen located nearby. I think the situation has changed little now.

The basics of drill learned at that time came in very handy while serving in the Soviet Army.
